Our charity work 2004-2005
Our chosen charity for 2004-2005 was the Down’s Syndrome Association (DSA).
Over the course of the year many of our staff, along with their friends and family, gave up their time to organise and attend events. Through the generosity of the public and staff we raised over £2,500 for the DSA. Details of these events are below:
Sports Day
The annual Emsleys Sports Day was held at Garforth Town AFC and included events such as a five-a-side football tournament and a rounders competition.
Rothwell Carnival
Our Charity Committee entered a nursery rhyme-themed float in the Rothwell Carnival and also held a tombola at the Carnival itself.
Charity auction
This auction was held at the Manston Public House in Crossgates. Local businesses and organisations donated over 50 items to the auction and a local band, Southbound, provided entertainment. The night raised over £1,750.
About the Down’s Syndrome Association
There are currently 60,000 people in the UK living with Down’s Syndrome. The DSA works to improve knowledge and understanding of the condition amongst the general public, championing the rights and challenging discrimination against those with Down’s Syndrome. All this work is aimed at providing an environment where those with Down’s Syndrome can lead a life of their choosing.
