Emsleys digs deep for the Environment

A green fingered duo from Leeds-based solicitors and estate agency, Emsleys, have lent their support to a local environmental project as part of Cares Day, a national initiative that has mobilised over 4,000 employee volunteers in town and cities across the UK.

Trainee Solicitor, Pria Mistry and Trainee Conveyancer, Jennie McMaster rolled up their sleeves to help clear and maintain a 1.5 mile length of hedgerow around a formerly derelict allotment in Headingley. Organised by Cares, an initiative of Business in the Community (BITC), the hedgerow is being renovated on behalf of Leeds Organic Growers, a social enterprise operating from The Station Allotments in Headingley. Pria and Jennie worked to transform the hedgerow into a mixed plant hedge, creating a wildlife corridor to promote biodiversity for birds and insects, and a nature walk around the site.

The project is the first initiative of Emsleys Greens, a team specifically set up by the company with the aim of reducing Emsleys' carbon footprint. Emsleys Greens are made up of voluntary team members from across Emsleys' various offices committed to making the company greener.

Jennie McMaster, (Trainee Conveyancer) said: "We were delighted to be able to take part in this project, it was hard work but it was fantastic to see the progress we made. As a local company it is great to be able to get involved in a truly local project and it's been an excellent opportunity to put Emsleys Greens to the test!"
