The Housing Association Cup 2008
In July 2008 Emsleys Housing Law Team once again sponsored the Housing Association Cup on 18th July 2008, at Goals Soccer Centre, Kirkstall in Leeds. This year our Co-Hosts were Leeds and Huddersfield based Connect Housing Association.
Twelve five - a - side football teams, from Social Landlords across Yorkshire competed for the trophy and the much coveted "Golden Boot" for most goals scored.
This year's entrants included teams from Connect Housing Association, Emsleys Solicitors, Chevin Housing Association, Sadeh Lok Housing Association, Leeds Federated Housing Association, Action Housing Association, Sanctuary Housing Association, Pennine Housing 2000 Ltd and Unity Housing Association.
Each team played five games to make it to the semi finals; the final saw the Leeds office of national Housing Association Sanctuary beat Huddersfield's Sadeh Lok 3-1.
The excitement surrounding the event was further raised by the involvement of high profile Championship referee, Uriah Rennie. Uri, refereed both the Semi Finals and the Finals, and presented the trophies at the end of the evening.
The event raised money for Uri's preferred charity, Wakefield Riding for the Disabled.
The event was a great success being a great opportunity for those working in the housing sector to network and compete in a sporting environment.
Ilyas Lunat, Customer Services Manager at Connect said "Connect are delighted to have been able to organise such a successful event, giving colleagues in the sector a chance to meet each other. We are really pleased to see so many people on the day, not just playing but also coming to watch and support. I think Uriah Rennie's attendance at the end gave the event an ideal finish and we are grateful for his attendance".
