Andrew Smith, a Solicitor in our Family Law department and Family Mediator, has recently achieved accreditation by the Family Mediation Council (FMC).
The FMC is a national body dedicated to the promotion of best practice in family mediation. It sets national standards of competence for all Family Mediators and aims to ensure the public can confidently access high-quality family mediation services. The accreditation scheme sets out a framework to be met by all mediators and provides expectations of quality standards, against which professional competence is measured.
Andrew completed his training as a family mediator in 2011 with Resolution, a member organisation of the Family Mediation Council and has since been working towards accreditation. Whilst doing so, Andrew has helped to launch and develop Emsleys’ Family Mediation department and has led a number of initiatives to actively market our mediation service to the public and other solicitors.
Andrew says: “The assessment process was a long and arduous experience, taking nearly four years in total. It involved a lot of work behind the scenes to develop the department, obtain referrals and not to mention the completion of actual mediations with real people. I am proud of the achievement and I am looking forward to continuing to provide our mediation clients and referrers with the highest quality family mediation service.”
