Fun, excitement, donations and success at our Family Fun Day!

Surprisingly, the sun made an appearance at Colton Cricket Club! From there the crowds rolled in, and the cake stand nearly sold out on our Family Fun Day. We are pleased to announce we raised money for over 8 bed bundles for our charity partner Zarach! Thank you to everyone for the donations, stalls, contributions and attendance on the day.

At 8am on a Sunday morning our staff could be found on a dew-coated cricket pitch assembling gazebos, tables and all sorts ahead of the day. With the arrivals of food vans, inflatables and business stalls there was large interest by the local football team and neighbours alike.

Just before 11 the first visitors strolled in, many diving to raid the tombola stand, and before not to long a selection of face-painted kids could be seen loaded with sweets, balloons and other wares across the grounds. Our hair braiders and face painters were busy through out the day and were not deterred by the wind attempting to steal their gazebo!

Will’s Flat Cap Throw became a firm centre of competition on the day with duelling across both categories raging fierce from start to finish. By the end of the day the neighbouring dance area had been incorporated into the throwing zone!

The day was accompanied by amazing performances from our glamorous acts. DJ Ken from Glitter Ball Events boosted the atmosphere during the day with his revelling tunes. Our first performance on the stage was Gemma Rigon with her extraordinary vocals. Following this Walton Dance School hosted a selection of performances featuring several styles of dance. Joe Hawkins and Rhys brought excitement and an upbeat grove to the day before our Pop Choir belted out a cappella versions of popular hits. Penultimately, we had another captivating display from Dorinda Dance and her amazing dancers. Finally, and to close the day, the spectacular Pete Hoyles gave a captivating performance, we know why he is a local favourite!

We would like to thank all our stall owners for joining Emsleys to support Zarach on our day, we really appreciated their support and in turn donation to the charity. Our own Sarah Portrey’s handmade bag stand was thriving throughout the day and many others reported success and a great atmosphere.

We welcomed both Bex and Amy from Zarach to the day. They could be found chatting to stall owners and enjoying the attractions. Thank you for joining the team on the day.

We’d like to thank again Emsleys staff for their time and contributions for the day. I’d like to thank Emsleys and the team of directors for funding the day and paying for all costs associated to maximise the profit for the charity, a very kind contribution. We couldn’t have hosted the day without Colton Cricket Clubs’ kind offer of their grounds and facilities, thank you Matthew and the team. Lee at Five Towns Printing supported the day with the printing of the leaflets which could be found from Crossgates to Rothwell, as well as the banner outside the club. We’d like to thank our stall owners again for attending the day and making the show. We’d like to extend this gratitude to our performances and musicians too which created an amazing feel to the day.

Our charity committee have started planning next years’ event, we can’t wait to see you there again!
