Emsleys warns employees could be signing away their future by signing Settlement Agreements

Emsleys’ employment law specialists warn many employees could be signing away their future by signing Settlement Agreements with their bosses.

With more than 3.7million workers having been made redundant since the start of the recession, Settlements Agreements, previously known as Compromise Agreements, have become increasingly popular with businesses.

“We’ve seen a marked increase in enquiries from people being presented with Settlement Agreements and many don’t realise that once signed, they lose all their employment rights.

It’s vital they don’t feel pressurised into signing away their future,” said Robert Bates, Head of Employment and Dispute Resolution at Emsleys.

“That’s why we’ve launched an online review service to ensure workers get clear independent advice. While many Settlement Agreements will be fair and offer sufficient compensation for signing away your rights, the sad fact is that some unscrupulous employers will try to pull the wool over your eyes.”

Review My Settlement Agreement will provide Settlement Agreement reviews for employees who are unhappy with the legal advice they’ve received, think they should receive more compensation or are worried that the terms are unreasonable.
